Farr's Fresh

Where: Farr's Fresh, 1073 S 750 E, Orem

Who Went: Chelsey, Devynne, Jessica, Robert & kids

Number of Visits: 1

What We Ordered: Self-serve frozen yogurt & custard (I got a mix of pineapple, and something else fruity with gummy worms and vanilla wafers)

What It Cost: ~$4/person

What We Thought:

Attention all crazy Disneyland fans out there! You MUST go to Farr's Fresh as soon as possible!

One of the best things about Disneyland are those heavenly, amazing Dole pineapple whips. They are one of those foods you wish you could eat for the rest of your life. And no trip to Disneyland is complete for me without at LEAST three trips to the Dole Pineapple whip stand!

Fortunately for all of us poor college students out there who can't afford to go to Disneyland anymore, Farr's Fresh brings the wonderful flavor of Dole Pineapple Whips here to Utah County!

Farr's Fresh is a fun alternative to your normal Utah County frozen yogurt joints because they also offer custards, sorbets, normal ice cream, and DOLE PINEAPPLE WHIPS. Yeah, you heard me right. The same pineapple pleasure can be found at Farr's Fresh and it is seriously so good. Plus you can top it with some fresh strawberries or mangoes...life is good.

What You Should Do: I think it's pretty clear - go to Farr's Fresh ASAP and get yourself some pineapple whip! If they stop carrying this, I will probably cry.

Yogurtland

Where: Yogurtland, 534 E University Parkway, Orem

Who Went: Chelsey & Owen, Chelsey & some girlfriends

Number of Visits: 5

What We Ordered:  A variety of smaller-sized flavors, usually mixed, with all sorts of toppings

What It Cost: $7.30

What We Thought:

Yogurtland is the best frozen yogurt place out there in terms of variety and options. They always have a wide range of flavor choices, and more toppings than you could ever choose from! This crazy large assortment of options can sometimes lead to rather...interesting flavor combinations (see below, Owen mixing sour gummy worms with brownie bites?), but there is no way that you will ever get bored of this place! The yogurt itself is not the creamiest or richest I've ever tasted, but I am always impressed with how true the flavors taste. The strawberry yogurt actually tastes like strawberries (not gross artificial flavors), the peanut butter cookie flavor tastes just like real crisscross cookies, the chocolate milkshake tastes exactly like the best chocolate shake I've ever had, the snozberries taste like snozberries! Just kidding. I wish they had a snozberry flavor...Anyway, they taste pretty real, which makes it that much more fun!

I love to mix flavors and come up with my own concoctions, and Yogurtland is the best place for this. It's all self-serve, so you can get as much or little of whatever you want -- above I got about half blueberry, half tangerine tango, with a little touch of mint creme..yum. My favorite thing about this place is probably the popping bobas. I just can't get over how fun they are! They have three flavor choices too -- passion fruit, mango, and strawberry bobas. Way too much fun for me.

Owen went a little topping crazy as you can see...and it's hard not too! They have nearly every flavor of candy bar, tons of fresh fruit choices, cookie dough, brownie or cheesecake bites, gummy everything, Ghiradelli chocolate sauce, mochi, Nerds, cereal, nuts, EVERYTHING! I especially love the tiny gummy bears and the little caramel filled chocolate cups...I could just get a cup full of toppings and be satisfied!

The prices are pretty cheap compared to most other yogurt places, but I do have to warn you -- it gets pretty busy! Even though there may be a long line, it usually moves through pretty quickly, but make sure to get a sample cup (or two!) from the person at the register at the beginning, because no one will be thanking you if you have to backtrack through the line.

What You Should Do: Go. Even though frozen yogurt places are WAY more expensive than buying ice cream at the grocery store, at least Yogurtland provides you with a fun experience where you can play mix master with tons of different yogurt flavors and toppings. Also, the spoons are cute. Just saying.

Red Mango

Where: Red Mango Frozen Yogurt, 297 E University Parkway, Orem

Who Went: Chelsey & Owen

Number of Visits: 1

What We Ordered: 2 regular-size yogurts: Original Yogurt with brownie bits and Newman-O's, White Peach Yogurt with blueberries and jelly bobas

What It Cost: $10.66

What We Thought:

Oh, the fro-yo trend. "Healthy" ice cream? Maybe not, but it is certainly delicious. We've been Yogurtland die-hards over here for the past few months, but when we tried to go there one night, it was so incredibly packed that we gave up and decided to try somewhere new. I was interested in Red Mango Frozen Yogurt because I had heard some people say how great it was, and some people call it "the expensive yogurt place." Why would anyone pay more than 40ish cents/ounce? I needed to know.

When we got there, I immediately liked the warm atmosphere and we were helped relatively quickly. Of course, there weren't many other people there, so I'm not sure how the customer service is on a busy day. I was a little disappointed that they only had three flavors of yogurt to try - I'm used to the 10 or more flavors of normal places. Owen went with the plain yogurt and got some chocolate-y toppings to go with it (we wanted to see if their original flavor tasted weird with chocolate, like some places do), and I got the white peach yogurt with my favorite little popping bobas. Seriously, if you've never tried these things, you really should. They are like little fun flavor explosions in your mouth! Definitely the most fun food item I've eaten recently. We both ordered regular sizes, and I was pleased to see that they were actually pretty big - I would probably get a small next time. I was a little disgusted that it cost $1 for the first topping. "This stuff IS expensive!" I thought, so we each only got two toppings (which they serve for you, you don't really get to pick the amount you want. Fortunately they were pretty generous). When they rang up our order, I was surprised to find that the total cost actually wasn't that much more than what we spend at any other yogurt place! Sweet!

We went to sit on the couches by the fireplace (kind of fun in the wintertime), and took our first few bites. Wow. This was definitely the best quality frozen yogurt I've ever had. The white peach flavor was amazing - creamy, smooth, and such a crisp delicious flavor. I only let Owen have a tiny bite of mine because I honestly did not want to share any of it, it was so good. The blueberries were all fresh and sweet, and I realized why people might go to Red Mango. Owen's original flavor was also wonderful. The plain yogurt complimented the chocolate flavors nicely, and he was more than satisfied with the Oreos and brownie flavors.

What You Should Do: Go! But not if you are the type of person who loves to load on lots of different kinds of toppings or mix flavors. If you like clean, basic and simple flavors, or usually order heavy toppings (like strawberries and other fruit), then Red Mango may be the best shot for you. The yogurt itself is amazing, and even though they have few flavors, they are delicious ones. If you like to mix 1/4th oatmeal cookie, 1/4th chocolate milkshake, 1/4th cake batter, and 1/4th red velvet plus Reese's, coconut, Kit Kat bars, Oreos, and caramel syrup for your frozen yogurt treat (maybe I've done that before...who knows...), then you'd be better off going to Yogurtland or somewhere else.
